At Sydney Harbour Yoga Club, yoga is more than just movement—it’s an experience, a connection to nature, and a way of life.
Our founder, Karin Finlayson, has always been drawn to the ocean. Some say she must have been a mermaid in a past life—forever at home in the water, swimming, sailing, surfing, playing beach volleyball, and embracing the rhythm of the tides. She found joy in movement, whether flowing on the mat or floating in the sea. Yoga, with its deep connection to breath and nature, was the perfect extension of this love for the elements.
The Beginning – Yoga on the Water
In January 2024, Karin had the chance to turn a dream into reality. Partnering with Double Bay Sailing Club, she transformed its stunning waterfront deck into a yoga sanctuary ‘Double Bay Yoga on the Wharf’, where students could practice with the sound of the waves beneath them and the sky stretching endlessly above. From the very first class, the response was amazing. People came not just for the yoga but for the experience—a space to breathe, move, and reconnect with nature.
Expanding the Horizon
With the incredible energy growing, another opportunity arose. By March 2025, Sydney Harbour Yoga Club expanded to Vaucluse Yacht Club, offering the same breathtaking harbourside yoga experience in yet another spectacular setting. Practicing here, students feel as though they are floating, fully immersed in the peaceful embrace of the ocean.
At the same time, Karin’s passion for the sea led her into another world—luxury yacht brokerage. Working at Rose Bay and Point Piper Marinas, surrounded by some of the world’s most beautiful boats, she naturally found a way to bring yoga into this space as well. This inspired the launch of Rose Bay Marina Yoga, located on the deck of the floating Sydney Harbour Surf Club boat, creating yet another one-of-a-kind yoga experience.
